The name most people already know in this category, even if they've never owned one. The Litter-Robot line built its reputation on a patented sifting globe that separates waste from clean litter without a rake or auger. This listing's Amazon review count is modest since most of Whisker's sales happen through their own site, but it's the most recognized name in self-cleaning litter boxes by a wide margin.

Is This For You?
Who Should (and Shouldn't) Buy This
Get it if…
You have multiple cats or one large cat and want a premium self-cleaning box with app features, and you're comfortable budgeting for the accessories and any replacement parts down the line.
Skip it if…
You're budget-conscious. The ramp, tray mat, and litter hopper are sold separately and the included WhiskerCare year is limited, so total cost can run past the sticker price.

About Litter-Robot 4 by Whisker
Setup is plug-in-and-go with no assembly. The step-and-fence combo is meant to cut down on tracked litter, and the app logs each cat's weight on every use. Check the listing for how many cats it is rated for, and give your cat time to accept it.
Total cost is worth planning for. The ramp, tray mat, and litter hopper are sold separately, so it's best to treat them as part of the budget rather than optional. The listing also mentions an included WhiskerCare year, so check what the warranty covers and for how long before you buy.

The Honest Take
What I Like and What I Don't
What I like
- The most recognized brand name in self-cleaning litter boxes
- Includes 1 year of WhiskerCare support
- Per-cat weight tracking in the app, listed for multi-cat households
What holds it back
- Modest Amazon review count relative to its actual market share
- Larger and heavier than the other picks in this lineup
- The ramp, tray mat, and litter hopper are sold separately, so plan on treating them as required rather than optional
- The base unit may lose its settings or freeze once the free WhiskerCare year ends, and the fix can be a full base-unit replacement rather than a repair
The verdict
The Litter-Robot 4 is a premium automatic box aimed at multi-cat households. Budget for more than the sticker price, and check what is covered once the free warranty year runs out. For the accessories you will likely want anyway, see our cat litter mats guide.
What to check in the reviews
We don't republish customer reviews. Read them in full on Amazon, and look for these points first.
- Whether you will need the ramp, tray mat, and litter hopper, since they are sold separately
- What the free WhiskerCare year covers and what changes once it ends
- How the unit's size and weight fit your space
- How the Whisker app tracks waste and litter levels day to day

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does this have fewer Amazon reviews than the other picks in this guide?
Whisker sells most Litter-Robot units directly through its own site rather than Amazon, so the Amazon review count undercounts how established the brand actually is. It's still the best-known name in this category.
What does the app actually track?
The Whisker app logs waste bin and litter levels and each cat's weight at time of use, and sends notifications when the bin needs emptying. Treat it as a usage log, not a diagnostic tool.
